Click here for a location map of Kitzbuehel, AustriaThe school skiing trip took place in January this year to the resort of Kitzbuehel in Austria. The trip leader was Mr R Bias and other staff accompanying the trip were: Mrs Wallis, Mr Embery, and Mr Wallis who is a school governor

Information from the Kitzbuehel web site:

The Kitzbuehel region forms part of a natural geographic barrier to the northwest, enabling an enormous amount of snow to fall on the valley below. Since the local mountains are covered in grass up to an altitude of 2,000 m only a relatively light snowfall is needed to create ideal skiing conditions. In addition, the region can boast 168 km of perfectly groomed slopes, 18 km of signposted ski routes in all grades of difficulty, fantastic deep snow downhill runs and a snow maker for 65 kilometres of piste.

56 modern cablecars and lifts are waiting to carry you in comfort to the top, including the new and unique 3S Bahn tricable gondola, wich soars across the deepest ravines. So that you are completly flexible in your choice of runs, the ski shuttle stops at the base lodges of all the cablecars. What is also unique for Austria is the free use of all the practice lifts down in the valley."

Ski Trip 2008 Report from Mr Bias:

The ski trip to ST Johan this year was once again a fantastic success. The pupils were given the opportunity to ski in varied ability groups down the breathtaking pistes in Austria. Both the Austrian and English instructors were great fun and catered for all abilities within the four groups.

There was, as always some fantastic skiers within the top two groups, and of course some not so good to begin with skiers in the beginners group. But in best spirits throughout and some sore bums, all pupils achieved great success by the end of the holiday. Even Mr Embery avoided the dreaded blisters this year and managed to reach a reasonable standard of skiing.

Pupils on the Slopes

The Evening entertainment proved a great success throughout the week. Swimming in both Kitbeuhl and St Johan on two evenings was a good way of relaxing after a full day of skiing. The heated outdoor pool and water slide went down well with both pupils and teachers.

The sports hall at the hotel was also a great way for the pupils to entertain themselves and hold various events such as the presentation evening and a fancy dress night following a quiz. Ice skating at the outdoor skating rink in St Johan was a great experience and a daunting one for some. However once again the pupils and teachers endeavoured to give it a go and brave the ice. The Awards evening on the Thursday really finished off what was already a great trip. The Austrian instructors handed out certificates to all pupils who all achieved so much in the 6 days of skiing.

Thank you to all staff and pupils for a very successful, safe, and enjoyable ski trip to Austria.
