Primary Liaison

Quotes

Students behave well, show respect for each other and understanding for those less fortunate than themselves. They are genuinely delighted to celebrate the successes of their peers. They clearly enjoy their learning.

Quotes
Ofsted, 2009

Mrs L Hazelgrove - Assistant HeadteacherThis is an area we are very proud of. We have made great strides in developing professional relationships with staff in our feeder schools. We have allocated time to specific members of staff to work with primary staff on curriculum projects throughout the year. Presently it is mainly the Art department as our Arts Status makes this more viable.

There are also many activities, which take place throughout the year, some at specific times and others which are on-going:

  1. Summer Term programme of link activities

  2. All year 5 pupils spend either a morning or afternoon session with us on activities, which are planned in liaison with primary staff and meet the needs of their curriculum. Many departments have an input. This precedes Open School in the Autumn term when these pupils visit as year 6 pupils choosing their secondary school

      Joint Activities

      In the past we have had music concerts at the paddocks and have held joint technology workshops with an architect.

      On-going activities

    • The music department goes into some of the primary schools to do African Drumming

    • Our Arts Status has enabled us to support numerous activities such as organising visiting artists and additional resources for special theme weeks. Several workshops are run after-school for primary pupils to attend. They have also helped with designing schemes of work, worked with primary staff during Ofsted, and have contributed to exhibitions of joint work.

    • Joint Literacy planning with Northwick Park Junior School;

    • Joint planning and participation in the Summer Literacy School

    • Information gathering by HOY and SENCO

    • Participation in events e.g. Book Weeks, Science & Technology Weeks;

    • Curriculum links in Science, PE, IT, Music

    • Celebration of Christmas – music activity involving all schools on the island.

    • The PE department organise the Island’s Primary Schools’ Sports Day, which is hosted at Cornelius.

    • Graduate Teachers visit primary schools for a Day’s observation and visa versa

    • Induction and monitoring programme is carried out including:

    Prospectus / information pack;
    Head of Year 7 visits;
    Induction day in school at the end of Year 6;
    Induction booklet provided for all pupils;
    Transfer of data and information on pupils academic progress and personal details.
