Special Attendance Award

Craig Fullman is presented with his Award for 100% Attendance
Congratulations to Craig Fullman Year 11 who has
not missed a single day at school since he joined in year 7 in September 2003. Educational research indicates that good attenders do better in the school exams. That is not surprising and Craig reinforces the findings of the research because he already has three Grade A's in his GCSE ICT and a GCSE Grade B in Art which he got in year 9.
Craig is expected to get a further 9 GCSE's this summer in his final exams.
To top it off Craig was also chosen as a school prefect. Craig was awarded a glass paperweight and gift vouchers by Mr Barry the Deputy Headteacher.

24 November 2007 - Mayor's Tea Party
Pupils serving at the Mayor's Tea Party
On Saturday, 24th November 2007, a number of our GCSE catering students together
with two Year 9 pupils, went along to Castle Point Civic Centre entertaining the Mayor of Castle Point, councillors, council employees and people from the local community. The pupils involved were required to prepare an afternoon tea buffet to feed approximately fifty guests. In addition, they were required to serve the guests and clear up afterwards.
At 9:00 on Saturday morning, Jordan Wickersham, Abbie Logan, Blake Thompson, Leesha Goody, Katie-Lee Kelly and Taylor Gilmore arrived at school to prepare the food. Various cakes had to be baked, iced, decorated and cut into portions, including coffee and walnut cake, carrot cake and chocolate cake.
This was followed by the preparation of the sandwiches and bridge rolls for the savoury part of the buffet. A variety of fillings were cooked and mixed for the sandwiches so as to appeal to a number of tastes and diets.
At 12:30 it was time to leave school and travel to the venue. Here we needed to prepare the tables with cloths and present the buffet. When the guests arrived, the pupils had to serve the buffet and refreshments. The pupils proved that they were more than capable of rising to the challenge, resulting in both organisers and guests being very happy.
Mrs Coulson (Head of Technology) was responsible for organising the production and display of the food, capably assisted by Mrs Pattinson (Teacher of Food Technology). In addition, Mr Hardaker (Teacher of History) was also present to assist with the presentation and service of the buffet and refreshments. To this end, Mr Hardaker called upon his previous experience as a hotel and restaurant manager to ensure that the high standards taught by Mrs Coulson were upheld. Jordan held the position
of Head Waitress and ran the event with some guidance from Mr Hardaker. Although very nervous, Jordan rose to the challenge
successfully.
Overall, the GCSE Catering students gave a very positive image of the school through the exceptional standard of food and service provided.
