Entrepreneurship Masterclass

Pupils from Cornelius Vermuyden School took part in the Young Enterprise Entrepreneurship Masterclass on Thursday 18th May 2006 at the Outback Steakhouse, Yardley Business Park, Basildon.

The Entrepreneurship Masterclass is a whole day seminar that challenges pupils to think about starting their own business as a career, and becoming an entrepreneur, through enabling today's entrepreneurs to inspire those of tomorrow. This is achieved by introducing the pupils to real entrepreneurs who share their vision, experiences and achievements.

Pupil involved in the Entrepreneurship Masterclass

Through participating in an Entrepreneurship Masterclass students gain:

  • an understanding from experts of what is involved in setting up their own business;

  • knowledge of the technical process of setting up a business from the experience of others who have become today's entrepreneurs;

  • an understanding of the need of related experiences before becoming tomorrow's entrepreneurs;

  • inspiration, enthusiasm and vision.

The purposes of the day:

  • to challenge pupils to work outside their normal age range and peer group;

  • engage pupils who have an interest in working within a business environment;

  • build the confidence and aspirations of pupils considering establishing their own businesses;

  • support pupils undertaking or planning to begin the Young Enterprise Company Programme.

The Masterclass aimed to help pupils identify the key entrepreneurial attitudes and skills required in starting their own business. In addition pupils were helped to understand the main issues and practicalities of starting their own business - for example: who to approach concerning financial matters, who to approach for help and advice. .
