The Nanjing Arts and Crafts Company, a group of five master craftspeople from China, visited Essex in November 2008 for ten days demonstrating their crafts and running workshops throughout the county. On 10th November they held very successful sessions for Essex teachers in the Karslake center at our school.
The Group Consisted of:
Mr. Zhang Fang Lin - Papercutter
Mrs. Zhang Lindi - Woodcarver, Decorative knotter and Sealcarver
Mr. Chun Bohua - Lantern Maker
Mr. Yen Lei - Mask Maker, Face Painter, Calligrapher
Mr. Tsao Zhen Rong - Kite Maker
Mr. Cao Dagang, Deputy Division Chief, Jiangsu Department of Culture
These photographs hopefully give some idea of the atmosphere. Not only were teachers impressed by the dazzling skill of the craftspeople but also the relaxed and friendly way they conducted the day.
A really good day was experienced by all, not forgetting the lovely Chinese Style lunch!
